Andrew Manze and Richard Egarr are among the leading lights in the current period-instrument scene, and their performances — individually, in tandem and with ensembles like the Academy of Ancient Music and the English Concert — have earned widespread recognition. Having played as a duo for nearly two decades, the musisians toured the USA last November in a classical programme including works by Mozart and Schubert. Here are some impressions from the American Papers:
The Denver Post:
What makes a good chamber music performance? For the answer, one need look no further than the ideal artistic connection between Englishmen Andrew Manze and Richard Egarr. [...] Egarr's deliberate, selective voicing of particular melodic phrases perfectly played into the ebb and flow of Manze's lyrical lines, culminating in an invigorating run through the spirited final movement.
New York Times:
Mr. Egarr, usually heard on keyboards that don’t project as forcefully as a modern piano, did a superlative job of maintaining balance while spinning contrapuntal strands with clarity and taste. |
